I know, it’s not the most glamorous topic to talk about, but tags are really useful. Why are they useful? Well, they allow users to search and discover similar competitions. A few good descriptive tags underneath the competition will display related competitions underneath, or clicking tags will pull up latest competitions that have been tagged with that word.
Sure, but we’ve got categories and search, right? Why would we need tags? Here’s a really good use for them that we’d really like to see: entry method. We don’t have a sub-category for entry method as it’s another level of complexity that will add friction to submitting competitions. But tags are a great place to put “creative”, or “facebook”, or “tiebreaker”, as well as prizes, like “iPad”.
So give it a go. It takes 2 seconds. Pop down a few tags on your next competition, and separate your words with a comma. That’s all it takes.
